Office Workers Union

The Office Workers Union is a union of office workers in the private sector, coming together to protect our rights at work and create a fairer Australia.

Over the last 100 years, Australian workers and their unions have played an integral role in creating fairer workplace laws that protect workers and their families, and improve wages. Everyday unions assist and advise members with problems that arise at work. Union members across Australia are continuing to improve our rights at work and create a fairer Australia.

The Office Workers Union is part of the Australian Services Union, one of the country’s oldest and largest unions.

The Office Workers Union cares about securing our members improved wages, protecting member’s rights at work, assisting members with problems at work and being a strong voice for a fairer community. The best way to make the most of these protections and benefits is to be a member of your union.

This is how we do it:

Every year unions argue for improved wages through the national wage case in the Fair Work Commission. Unions also argue to improve your rights at work through changes to your award, which sets out the minimum terms and conditions of employment. Find out about our current cases are here.

Union members have secured important improvements for workers and the community through influencing governments to stand up for better laws. Today, we continue to fight for improvements to legislation like superannuation and paid parental leave. Find out about how we help to improve our rights at work.

Union members take action on a wide range of issues to build a safer, fairer and caring Australia. Find out more about how we are taking action.

Understanding your rights at work

In Australia, your rights at work are protected by strong industrial laws but it isn’t always easy to navigate this system on your own.

You’ll never walk alone when you’re part of a union. Being a member of the Office Workers Union means that you have access to expert advice when you need it, even if it is just to check whether what your employer is telling you is correct.

Whether you have a question about your pay or are unsure about your rights when it comes to leave and holidays, advice is only a phone call or email away.

Members can also talk to an industrial expert confidentially about issues in their workplace such as bullying or harassment.

All you need to do is call 1800 864 667, email advice@officeworkers.org.au or log into the members' only section of the site.

Help at work

Most people will need some advice about work at some stage in their working lives but sometimes you need more than just advice. As a union member, you will have someone fighting for you every step of the way.

There is nothing more important to our union than working to protect individual members, whether it is in meetings with their employers or representing them in the Fair Work Commission or a range of the other industrial tribunals and courts.
